Washington Post's AI podcasts invent and misattribute quotes

In December 2025, The Washington Post launched Your Personal Podcast in its app. AI wrote and voiced each episode from Post articles, based on the listener's reading history. Within 48 hours, staff flagged errors. Some episodes misattributed quotes or invented them. Others added commentary and presented a source's view as the paper's position. The paper's head of standards told staff the errors were frustrating. Semafor later reported that 68% to 84% of scripts had failed the Post's internal tests across three rounds. The product team launched anyway and planned to fix issues during the beta. The app tells listeners to verify information against the articles.
