Robby Starbuck sues Google for $15M over false AI crime claims

Conservative activist Robby Starbuck sued Google in Delaware Superior Court in October 2025. He alleges that Bard and Gemini described him as a serial sexual abuser and a criminal with a long record. He says the chatbots made up news articles, credited to real journalists, to back the claims. He seeks more than $15 million. Google said most of the claims came from Bard hallucinations it had already addressed. Its spokesperson added that creative prompting can make a chatbot say misleading things. In July 2026, Judge Meghan Adams denied Google's motion to dismiss, so the case moves to discovery. None of the claims have been proven.
