Ruling declared nullitySouth African labor arbitrator's ruling voided over a fake AI case
Six former South African Post Office workers brought unfair dismissal claims while the company was in business rescue. In August 2026, a commissioner at the CCMA, the country's labor dispute body, sent the claims to arbitration. He cited a Constitutional Court ruling to show that business rescue did not block them. No such ruling exists, and its citation belongs to a case about spousal visas. On October 15, the Johannesburg Labour Court halted the arbitration. Acting Judge Sean Snyman wrote that the commissioner must have relied on AI. He called the ruling a nullity and said arbitrators must check that cases AI finds are real.
