Norway's NTB pulls a story with AI-invented quotes and a fake source

Early on October 15, 2025, Norwegian news agency NTB sent out a story about telecom company Telenor's annual security report. It carried five direct quotes said to come from the report. None of them were in it, and some distorted Telenor's message. One quote was credited to a security director who does not exist. Telenor flagged the errors, and NTB pulled the story the same morning. Copies stayed up on some news sites for two weeks. NTB's news editor said the errors came from AI used incorrectly, outside NTB's own tools. She called it a very serious error and apologized to Telenor.
