$6,000 in finesMike Lindell's lawyers fined $3,000 each over an AI-made filing
In February 2025, lawyers for MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell filed a motion in a defamation suit brought by a former Dominion Voting Systems employee. It had nearly 30 defective citations, including cases that do not exist and misquoted case law. At a hearing, the lead lawyer admitted they had run it through AI and he had not checked it. He later said a draft had been filed by mistake. Judge Nina Y. Wang of the federal court in Denver rejected that, noting the supposedly correct version also had errors. On July 7, 2025, she fined each of the two lawyers $3,000. A jury had found Lindell liable for defamation the month before.
