Accounts wrongly bannedMeta wrongly bans users for child exploitation, then restores some
In mid-2025, many Instagram and Facebook users said Meta had disabled their accounts for breaking its child sexual exploitation rules. They said they had done nothing of the kind. An Australian beautician lost her business account after posting a video that briefly showed her holding her daughter. Her appeal was rejected in about 15 minutes. Meta restored her accounts within hours of ABC News asking about the case and told her it had got this wrong. A petition over wrongful bans gathered more than 30,000 signatures. Users blamed automated moderation. Meta said it relies on people and technology and saw no sign of a significant rise in wrong enforcement.
