Report quietly revisedWhite House MAHA report cites studies that don't exist
On May 22, 2025, the White House's Make America Healthy Again Commission released a report on children's chronic disease. A week later, the news site NOTUS found at least seven problem citations. Four pointed to papers that do not exist, and three misstated real studies. The Washington Post found the string "oaicite" in some citation links, which ChatGPT users have seen in its output. The press secretary called the errors formatting issues. Hours later, a revised report replaced all seven citations. An HHS spokesperson said the substance of the report was unchanged. HHS did not say whether its staff used AI.
