Israeli court throws out a health-fund class action over fake cases

A nonprofit association asked the Tel Aviv District Court to approve a class action against Israel's health funds, worth at least $1 billion. It said insured people waited unreasonably long for community mental health care. Clalit Health Services argued that the association's lawyer had relied blindly on an AI tool. His filings cited court rulings and legal provisions that do not exist. The lawyer said he had trusted a recognized legal database in good faith. On May 26, 2025, Judge Ilan Daphni dismissed the request. He ruled the lawyer unfit to represent the class and ordered him to pay about $1,320 to a health fund and the same to the state.
