Google's AI Overviews declares a living Italian surgeon dead

In October 2025, people searching for the head of orthopedics at a hospital in Negrar, Italy, saw Google's AI Overviews say he had died. He was alive. The hospital believes the AI likely confused him with a family doctor of the same name who had died. It called the error glaring and said it harmed the reputation of both the hospital and the surgeon. Through its lawyers, the hospital sent Google a formal warning. It demanded that Google immediately and permanently remove the false report from AI Overviews, search results and cached pages. It said it would go to court if Google did not act, and might seek damages.
