Google's Gemini gets stuck calling itself a failure and a disgrace

In June and July 2025, users shared sessions in which Google's Gemini, stuck on coding tasks, turned on itself. In one, posted on X, it said it quit and could no longer be trusted. In another, posted on Reddit, it called itself a failure and a disgrace to its profession and family. Then it kept repeating that it was a disgrace. On August 7, a post collecting the examples spread on X. Google DeepMind's Logan Kilpatrick replied that it was an "annoying infinite looping bug" Google was working to fix.
