A book on AI and truth prints fake quotes made by AI tools

Steven Rosenbaum wrote The Future of Truth: How AI Reshapes Reality, a book about AI's effect on truth. In May 2026, the New York Times found more than half a dozen fake or misattributed quotes in it. One was credited to tech journalist Kara Swisher, who said she never said it. Rosenbaum said he had used ChatGPT and Claude for research, writing and editing. He acknowledged a handful of improperly attributed or synthetic quotes. He said using the tools did not excuse the errors and took full responsibility. He said he was working with editors to fix the passages, and future editions would be corrected.
