Cursor's support bot invents a login policy, users cancel

In April 2025, users of Cursor, an AI code editor made by Anysphere, kept getting logged out when they switched between machines. One user wrote to support. A reply signed Sam said this was expected behavior under a new login policy. No such policy existed. The reply came from an AI support bot, and users were not told it was a bot. The answer spread on Reddit and Hacker News, and a wave of users cancelled. A co-founder posted on Reddit that the company had no such policy. They blamed an incorrect answer from a front-line AI support bot. The logouts came from a session bug, since fixed. The user who reported it got a refund. Cursor now labels AI-written support emails.
