Shared ChatGPT chats show up in Google search

ChatGPT let users share a chat by link. The share dialog had a checkbox to make the chat discoverable, with the explanation in small gray text below it. Fast Company found thousands of these shared chats in Google results. Some people may have made a link only to send a chat through a messaging app or to return to it later. Some chats held details that could reveal who wrote them. OpenAI's security chief first called the labeling sufficiently clear. After a backlash, he removed the option. He said it created too many chances for people to share things by accident. OpenAI called it a "short-lived experiment" and said it was working with search engines to remove the indexed chats.
