$85,567 in feesFlorida lawyer must pay $85,567 after AI invents cases in his filings
A Florida lawyer represented ByoPlanet International in four related federal suits. In filings across those cases, he cited cases and quotations that generative AI had made up. He kept doing it after the errors were pointed out, including in his response to the court's order to explain. Judge David Leibowitz called it repeated, abusive, bad-faith conduct. He dismissed the four cases, referred the lawyer to the Florida Bar, and required him to attach the order to any new case he files in that court for two years. On July 31, 2025, he ordered the lawyer to pay the defendants $85,567.75 in legal fees within 90 days.
