CA$7,000 lostBMW Toronto honors a buyback price its chatbot offered by mistake
A customer asked BMW Toronto, where they had bought a used 2021 BMW, to buy the car back. A text assistant named Quinn replied with an offer of CA$27,162.79. That was exactly what the customer still owed on the car loan. Quinn never said it was a bot, and it booked a meeting, texting "Let's lock in today at 3:30." A salesperson then called to say Quinn was an AI and the offer was a mistake. The dealer's real offer was CA$20,000 at most. After CBC News contacted the dealership, it reinstated the original offer, and the customer accepted. The sales manager said a staff miscommunication made the bot treat the loan balance as the price.
