False drug use on recordAI scribe falsely records that an Australian patient took mushrooms
An Australian woman agreed to let her urologist use an AI scribe to transcribe her first appointment. After kidney stone surgery, she read the specialist's letter to her GP. It said she micro-dosed psychedelic mushrooms and suggested this might explain earlier bleeding around her kidneys. She had never taken them. She was on workers' compensation and feared the false claim could hurt her case. After she complained, the urologist apologized in writing and corrected the letters. The doctor could not say how the claim got in, blamed the dictation or transcription process, and said the practice would review its use of AI. ABC News reported the case on August 14, 2026.
