Google's AI Overviews names Airbus in Air India's Boeing crash

On June 12, 2025, Air India Flight 171 crashed after takeoff in Ahmedabad, killing 241 people on board. Hours later, a Reddit user searched Google for the latest fatal Airbus crash. The AI Overview pointed to the Air India flight and called the plane an Airbus A330-243. It was a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, as widely reported. Ars Technica reported the error. Google said the response was no longer showing and that it uses examples like this to update its systems. It also said AI Overviews are as accurate as its featured snippets. Google removed AI Overviews for that search and related ones.
